Home MenuNews Release - City of Newark Announces Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Newark Resource Center
CITY OF NEWARK, CA- The City of Newark is pleased to announce a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of construction on the Newark Resource Center, a new community hub designed to connect residents with essential services and local organizations.
Located at 37365 Ash Street, next to the Viola Blythe Community Service Center and Jerry Raber Ash Street Park, the Newark Resource Center will serve as a centralized, accessible location for residents seeking information and support from a range of community-based service providers. The building, formerly a Head Start childcare center, has been fully renovated into a bright, modern facility designed to support community connection and access to services.
“This Resource Center is a reflection of who we are and what we value as a community,” said Michael Hannon, Mayor of Newark. “By creating a welcoming place where residents can connect with resources and support, we are taking an important step toward strengthening our community and making sure everyone has access to the help they need to thrive.”
Construction on the approximately $2 million project began last winter and was made possible through a combination of funding sources, including $1 million in state funding secured by Assemblymember Alex Lee, approximately $800,000 in federal funding, and $200,000 from the City’s Capital Improvement Fund.
“The Newark Resource Center will serve as a crucial hub for social services and is a testament to the City’s commitment to serving families in need,” said Assemblymember Alex Lee. “The center’s opening will ensure that families have access to resources for housing, food, and health care. I’m proud to have secured $1 million in state funding for the Newark Resource Center and look forward to seeing their great work.”
The City has coordinated with community-based service providers to establish regular office hours, programs, and events at the Center. Participating organizations will offer a variety of services, including food assistance, healthcare resources, and housing counseling.
“We’re really excited to deepen our partnership with the City in support of Newark families,” said Corina Gutierrez, Community Health Worker II with Healthy Schools and Communities at Alameda County Health. “This Center will bring much-needed resources to our most vulnerable communities. I’m looking forward to being part of this new opportunity and working with families to connect them to resources that support their health, wellness, and self-determination.”
The City of Newark invites community members, partners, and local leaders to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony on January 29 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Newark Resource Center, 37365 Ash Street. The event will provide an opportunity to celebrate this milestone and learn more about the vision for the Center ahead of its full opening.
The Newark Resource Center represents an important step toward expanding access to resources and strengthening support for Newark residents.
