Union Sanitary District operates a 33-acre wastewater treatment facility in Union City and provides collection, treatment and disposal services to a total population of over 356,000 in Fremont, Newark, and Union City, CA.  The District maintains over 830 miles of underground pipeline in its service area.  Visit USD for more information.

In 2020, the Newark City Council voted to join Ava Community Energy, formerly East Bay Community Energy (EBCE).  Ava Community Energy (Ava) is a Joint Powers Authority that consists of most cities in Alameda County.  Ava procures energy on behalf of Newark residents and businesses, at a rate lower than PG&E, and the source of the energy is more environmentally friendly.  For more information, please visit Ava Community Energy.

Ava Community Energy has expanded its service to Newark residents.  All electricity customers in Newark were automatically transitioned to Ava's Bright Choice service.  Customers receive a single monthly PG&E bill that include Ava's charges for electricity.  More information about the transition can be found here.

Republic Services Waste Collection Update

The City of Newark is providing an update to keep our community informed about the ongoing disruption to waste collection services provided by Republic Services.  Visit:  To Learn More

 GARBAGE , RECYCLING, & COMPOST COLLECTION 

Garbage, recycling, and compost collection for all residences, including all single and multi-family residences and business establishments in the City of Newark is mandatory.  Services may be obtained by contacting the City of Newark's authorized franchise contractor Republic Services located at 42600 Boyce Road, Fremont, CA  94538.  Call them at (510) 657-3500 (Monday - Friday, 8am - 5:30pm).

Alameda County offers multiple free, convenient options for residents to properly and safely dispose of their household hazardous waste (HHW).  This service is for residents of Alameda County only.

Drop-off Requirements:

• Stay in your vehicle. It is state law. Please place items in an unlocked trunk or back cargo space.
• Have your driver's license ready. We will scan your license to verify Alameda County residency. If your driver's license doesn't have an Alameda County address, please show proof of residency by bringing a recent utility bill or a copy of a rental or ownership agreement.

• This service is not for businesses; find information about business hazardous waste disposal.
