The Newark Police Department is Hosting A Youth Police Academy
Join our FREE, hands-on program designed to give youth an inside look at law enforcement, learn about community safety, and discover what it takes to protect & serve.
Participants will meet officers, explore real-world scenarios, and learn how police and residents work together to keep Newark safe.
Eligibility:
- Open to youth ages 14-19 years
- Parent/guardian consent required
- A brief background check will be conducted on all applicants.
Youth academy topics consist of, but are not limited to:
- Patrol Operations
- Traffic Safety & Dangers of DUI
- Use of Force
- Life Lessons
- Crime Prevention & Internet Safety
- Importance of Communication/The Role of Police Dispatchers
- K-9 Program Overview & Demo
- SWAT & Drone Demo
- Gang Awareness & Dangers of Drug Use
- CSI & Forensics
The academy is a four-day program and participants are expected to attend all scheduled sessions.
Applications are available HERE or in the Newark Police Department Lobby. Completed applications may be emailed to johna.coulthard@newarkca.gov or dropped off in person at the NPD Lobby, Monday - Friday between 8AM - 4PM.
Space is limited—Apply by Friday June 5, 2026 at 4PM.
