The following rules apply to all players and spectators within the gated turf fields. Please help us keep these fields safe and well maintained for the enjoyment of everyone.
- Fields available for use from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Permitted users have priority. Field hours are subject to change at any time.
- Use of these fields is at your own risk. Soccer and other body-contact sports are classified as hazardous recreational activities under California Government Code § 831.7. The City of Newark is not liable for injuries arising from such activities.
- No person shall play or engage in an active sport, except on grounds set aside for such purpose. Newark Municipal Code § 12.16.270
- Drop-in use is for sports activities with 11 or fewer people. Drop-in use is only allowed when the turf field is not reserved with a valid permit.
- Private training, coaching, or instruction is not permitted under any circumstances unless part of an approved, permitted field rental, or contractual agreement.
- An adult guardian must accompany participants under the age of 13 years old.
- All food, beverages, gum, sunflower seeds, nuts, candy, sports drinks, and glass are strictly prohibited. WATER ONLY.
- Consumption, serving, or selling alcoholic beverages is prohibited.
- No drugs or smoking of any kind, including e-cigarettes, and any use of smokeless tobacco is prohibited.
- No person shall sell, vend, peddle, distribute any merchandise, or property whatsoever within the boundaries of land or water owned, managed or controlled by the city, except with the written permission of the city. Newark Municipal Code § 12.16.210
- No hanging, climbing, or sitting on soccer goals. Goals are for use by permitted users only.
- No marking, lining, or altering of fields.
- Please deposit all trash in the designated receptacles provided.
- No defacing of City Property, including graffiti, tagging, and vandalism.
- All equipment must be removed from the playing surface at completion of use.
- No metal cleats allowed. Everyone must wear appropriate footwear. No high heels. Newark Municipal Code § 12.16.300
- No staked equipment, canopies, flags, or other outdoor furniture allowed on turf fields. Personal outdoor sports chairs with protective footings only.
- Signs and banners are not allowed to be posted on fences, gates, or poles unless approved by the City.
- Bicycles, skateboards, roller blades, scooters, and unauthorized vehicles on the turf are not allowed.
- Animals are not allowed on the turf field, with the exception of service animals, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act. The owner must be in physical proximity and have full control of service animals at all times.
- At any time and without warning, a staff member will have the discretion to limit or stop an activity that may cause injury or inconvenience to others. STAFF MEMBERS HAVE FULL AUTHORITY over patrons using Mel Nunes Sportsfield Turf Fields. Newark Municipal Code § 12.16.170
