Compost Giveaway 2026

April 27 through May 8, 2026

Traditionally, the City has hosted an annual Compost Giveaway event in April in partnership with Republic Services and the Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station.  In 2026, we are moving away from the traditional one-day giveaway event.

As a thank you for your commitment to composting yard-waste, food scraps, and food-solid paper, the City of Newark and Republic Services are offering home delivery of two free bags of high-quality compost to the first 1,000 single family households that register.

Instead of a one-day pickup event, Republic Services will drop off the bags directly to your home between April 27 and May 8, 2026.

  • Eligibility:  Open to Single-Family Newark residents with an active Republic Services account and a green cart.  Apartment complex residents who do not receive a bill are not eligible.
  • Limit: One registration (2 bags) per household.
  • Capacity: Limited to the first 1,000 households to register.
